TVET Council Barbados Latest News
The Barbadian delegation going to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 comprises competitors, skills experts, two representatives to the International TVET Youth Forum and officials from the TVET Council Barbados.
The 14-member delegation going to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 to represent Barbados has been named. The team comprises competitors and skills experts as well as officials from the TVET Council Barbados.
Competitors will each contest one of the following skill areas to demonstrate competence and excellence. They are:
- Akeil Craig-Browne, Automotive Technology
- Roshida Griffith, Garment Making
- Takiya Jordan, Hairdressing
- Tinisha Hall, Culinary Arts.
Four experts will accompany the competitors; they will also serve as judges for their specific skill area. They are:
- Lisa Holder, Garment Making
- Steve Phillips, Culinary Arts
- Wayne Maycock, Automotive Technology
- Wendy Bishop, Hairdressing.
The Official Delegate is Executive Director of the TVET Council, Henderson Eastmond. The Technical Delegate is Dario Walcott who also serves as Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for WorldSkills Barbados, and, the Team Leader is Manager, Technical Services at the TVET Council, Wendy McClean.
This will be the first time that Barbados’ technical and vocational skills will be represented at this unique, live, biennial competition, which is hosted by WorldSkills International, the global hub for skills excellence and development.
The Barbadian delegation will also include two representatives to the first ever International TVET Youth Forum being held during the WorldSkills Conference which takes place during the competition. They are:
- Akel Bailey
- Keanndra Marshall.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 takes place from October 15 to 18 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The contest will see over 1300 competitors from 77 countries competing in 51 skill areas. (PR/TVET Council Barbados)
