TVET Council Barbados Latest News
The second issue of the TVET Council’s magazine - 21st Century Worker: Our Goals, Our Careers,
Our Future - is now available online.
The magazine’s overall theme is investing in workforce development. In each edition readers will find
stories on issues related to workforce education and training, and receive career advice and guidance.
The theme of the second edition is ‘Transforming Barbados’ TVET System from supply-led to
demand- driven’. It is based on the establishment of the Competence Based Training Fund (CBTF)
which was set up as part of the Barbados Government’s Skills for the Future programme.
The purpose of the CBTF is to help employers and training providers to better collaborate on
workforce training that meets the needs of employers and leads to skilled, competent and certified
workers who help to drive productivity.
Technical Officer - Communications of the Council and Editor, Samantha Jones, noted that the 21st
Century Worker magazine is intended to help the TVETC achieve its key function of promoting
competence-based TVET. She added: "TVET is education aimed at preparing individuals for the
world of work by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitude and work experience
to be certified as competent to perform a work role to the standards expected.”
She urged readers to visit the website http://www.tvetcouncil.com.bb/Magazine/ to view the magazine
and provide any comments, ideas and feedback. 21st Century Worker, which will be a bi-annual
magazine, was first published in 2014.
