TVET Council Barbados Latest News
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Council, through the WorldSkills Barbados (WSB) Programme, will host its first WorldSkills Barbados Juniors (WSBJ) Future Skills Camp, in conjunction with WorldSkills Russia (WSR).
On Friday, August, 13th 2021, the collaboration was made official during a virtual signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This memorandum also serves as an opportunity to further explore similar programmes presented by WorldSkills International to the TVETC and WSB.
During his brief remarks, Executive Director at the TVET Council (TVETC), Henderson Eastmond, outlined how this partnership can improve skills development in Barbados and its importance during this time. “In the discipline of TVET, the past year and the COVID-19 pandemic have brought home the importance of integrating technology, digital learning and computer literacy into practical learning whether through augmented reality, hybrid approaches utilizing face-to-face and online, etc. This is one of the key learning points that has emerged internationally.”
Mr. Eastmond added: “We at the TVET Council have been engaged in the support and promotion of Higher Level Qualifications and skills development, especially in the more technical areas, through our National / Caribbean Vocational Qualification Programme and our newly established Life Long Learning Unit.”
The WorldSkills Barbados Juniors (WSBJ) Future Skills Camp, which is aimed at students ages 14 -18, is being held this year as an alternative to the second biennial WSBJ Competition that was scheduled to take place in November 2021 but has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The camp will be held fully online from September 6th to 10th, 2021, with training being delivered by international experts.
