TVET Council Barbados Latest News
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council will host the WorldSkills Barbados 2020 Competition in November at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), Two Mile Hill, St. Michael. This is the fifth time that this unique, live, biennial event, which is modelled on the international WorldSkills Competition, is being staged.
This year's WorldSkills Barbados Competition was scheduled to take place in May 2020 but was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which affected Barbados and the rest of the world. It will now be held November 19 - 22, 2020.
The WorldSkills programme serves to promote skills development and excellence. During the four days of the 2020 competition 26 finalists - 25 competitors and 1 reserve - from three (3) public and one private local training institution will vie to win gold, silver or bronze medals in the following six (6) Skill Areas: (1) Car Painting (2) Cooking (3) Fashion Technology (4) Graphic Design Technology (5) Hairdressing, and (6) Restaurant Service.
Technical Officer with the TVET Council, Dario Walcott, who serves as the Lead Officer for the WorldSkills Barbados Programme, announced the 2020 finalists at a Media Briefing which took place at the Media Resource Department Conference Room, Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT) on Friday, October 2.
